Certain components of this process can be automated. For example, mechanical comparison of two lists can and should be done by garden-variety (non-AI) computer processes.
But the human-in-the-loop component is essential for success. Ideally, the validation team will be a multi-generational cohort of subject matter experts. Senior subject matter experts often can tell at a glance whether a citation, footnote, or concept has been fabricated. Junior level team members may be subject to their own bias that predisposes them to trust the outputs of a computer-generated process. Including junior level people accelerates knowledge transfer and fills in the gaps from the data used to train a specific model.
For example, if a geo-economic model were trained only on texts written by renown economist John Maynard Keynes but not texts from other schools of economics or the writings from prominent 21st century economists, the model output will be substandard from a substantive perspective even if the technology is working perfectly.
Senior subject matter experts would be able to spot the substantive deficiencies and then come up with a plan to expand the universe of input data to include additional schools of thought.

If you were at university, this step would be the equivalent of cheating -- providing the questions in advance together with a concordance of where to find the answer. Standard templates include:
